Over fifteen years ago, Caring River Cancer Center began serving the Southwest Mississippi and Southeast Louisiana region. Since that time, we have grown to require additional expansionof the original facility.
In mid-2007, the administrative team determined that due to the demand for convenient radiation therapy services in Natchez and the surrounding communities, we would take a giant step to further upgrade and expand our center. The upgrade would include the construction of a new linear accelerator vault to accommodate the addition of a new Varian dual photon linear accelerator with multi-electron modalities, image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), 120-leaf MLC (multi-leaf collimation), digital real-time portal imaging, expanded intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), cone beam CT, Varian’s Aria record and verify system and an Eclipse, Varian’s integrated and comprehensive treatment planning system.
The construction and planning team developed a workable timeline and worked diligently to meet the deadlines. The new linear accelerator was delivered in late August, 2008, acceptance and commissioning completed in mid October, 2008 and patient treatment on the new accelerator began in late October, 2008.
